What a Real Enterprise SLA Actually Includes

Do not let marketing jargon fool you. We break down exactly what a 99.999% SLA means for your business, including MTTR, penalties, and why 24/7 NOC support is the true backbone of your connectivity.

What a Real Enterprise SLA Actually Includes

Defining the 99.999% Standard

In the telecom industry, the Service Level Agreement (SLA) is often misunderstood. A carrier-grade SLA is not just a promise of uptime; it is a financial guarantee of operational performance. At Smartnett, we adhere to ITIL v4 standards to ensure our network maintains 99.999% uptime.

The Math of Uptime

If a provider tells you they offer a "five-nines" SLA, they are promising that your circuit will not be down for more than 5.26 minutes per year.

| SLA Tier | Uptime % | Max Annual Downtime | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Two-Nines | 99% | 3.65 Days | | Three-Nines | 99.9% | 8.76 Hours | | Four-Nines | 99.99% | 52.56 Minutes | | Five-Nines | 99.999% | 5.26 Minutes |

What a Real SLA Covers

  1. MTTR (Mean Time to Repair): The clock starts the moment a ticket is opened in our 24/7 NOC.
  2. Latency/Jitter Guarantees: For DIA, we guarantee packet delivery metrics across our backbone.
  3. Scheduled Maintenance: Proper SLAs distinguish between 'unscheduled outages' (penalized) and 'scheduled maintenance' (notified 7 days in advance).

Common Exclusions

Most enterprise SLAs do not cover power outages at the customer premises, hardware failures of customer-owned equipment (like non-certified routers), or force majeure events. However, our IFT/PROFECO regulation compliance ensures that our SLA documentation is transparent, legal, and enforced, providing our clients with the peace of mind required for critical business infrastructure.
